Let’s pray for those who are victims of gun violence and let’s stay safe. But it’s time to do something about it. We all need each other. We are in this together. Again, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I hope that life treats you well and that you find the strength inside to cherish yourself as well as those around you. I hope that I will meet more beautiful people like you. I hope to see you soon. I hope that God gives me the courage to step outside of my comfort zone and soar. I hope that the New Year becomes a living symbol of a New Beginning for all of us. I hope that forgiveness overcomes hatred as I believe deep down inside that the future is bright. I hope that I try to spend more time thinking and doing for others. Peace and Love to you. Always.

Get Over it and Move On.

I was disgusted with myself today. I had a horrible eating moment. Nonstop bingeing is never good. But it’s done, Angela. Get over it and move on. Wallowing in failure or weakness is a total waste of time. That not only applies to dieting, but it also applies to your career, your aspirations, and your dreams. Self-pity is not a road to success. You can’t go back into the past. Stop crying over spilled milk. Get up and live. Fight for a better future. So Here I go. I’m on my way out for a run. The future is bright.

  It’s not a total waste of time, if you try to figure out why you’re doing it. And that’s usually about “going back to the past” and asking yourself what it is you’re “hungry” for, that you’re not getting. Our emotions are not to be trifled with or written off. Staying in self-pity is no worse than trying to “suck it up” or otherwise hold it in. It actually is strengthening to cry and scream it out. Just sit still and write about it. Whatever comes, just write. Start with the question, what am I so hungry for? Why am I so angry? With myself? Some injustice endured as a child? Why do I feel so “empty”? Don’t discount what comes, just write, keep writing. It helps. When you start to feel some pull toward something you don’t want to do (addiction, escapism), grab the pad and pen and do it again. An effective route to the past, and re-gaining control. Things like moderate exercise and meditation, as good as they are, can ony be a temporary fix. The real deal actually is figuring out why we do these things, honoring our emotions by effectively expressing them (how ever many times that takes) and THEN letting it go. Also, if you’re on a low-fat diet, that’s not healthy. Dieting in general isn’t. There are proper ways of eating (low carb along with good amounts of healthy fat, protein) that don’t include deprivation of good healthy real food–not from a box. “Dieting” and all extreme diets are a form of self-abuse, a subconscious need to punish/destroy ourselves. The root of it is unhealed trauma, usually from childhood.

    Thanks for saying that. This works for so many people. For me, however, self-pitty keeps me frozen and makes me feel worst than I did before. I end up getting nothing done, feeling blue. But I see how it can be made to strengthen you, like you say. Thanks again for that thoughtful point of view.

Dear Friends, It is important to remember your self worth. Love yourself. Stay away from negative people. They will try and pull you down. They may not even know that they are doing it because they have been negative for a long time. It feels natural to them. You have to surround yourself with people who are positive. People who inspire you. People who are hopeful about the future. Read positive books. Seek out positive relationships. This positive attitude will rub off on you. Listen to positive music, oh yeah.

  True, but… I ashore you that there are times when all of us get negative. When it happens I sure hope my friends, true friends stay with me – and I call that life. But people who are all about negativity are something else. They need to want to change themselfs first with help from other than friends or collegues!

  Hi Angela. You are on the money. I worked with a fellow that I considered a friend. However he was always negative. He asked one day “How do you stay positive all the time?” I told him that I took a walk in the woods during lunch (instead of eating) and if he would join me I would answer his question about staying positive. By the time the walk was over I was exhausted and worn out by his negativity. He listed to nothing I offered. It was the last time we walked together but I was still friends with him hoping that he would get the idea. NO LUCK.
  We need to keep our own views and avoid the negative.

    Yes, something similar happened to me. Except, I found myself slipping into the negativism. I started complaining but I felt exhausted by it. I realized, I literally could not be around this person because they exhaust me.

Focus

On the heels of the Ohio school shooting America seems to deflect its importance by focusing on a Gay Marine’s homecoming kiss or on Angelina Jolie‘s Leg. There are so many important things happening in the world. I guess it is easier to deflect our difficult problems than to face them and solve them. I get it. Sometimes you just need to relax. 5000 Hugs and Kisses

Facebook “friends” are all the craze. Would they “be there” for you? Would you “be there” for them? The beauty of life is that we can make it what we want. What if you really had 5000 friends. REAL friends. The kind you can touch, see, and literally spend time together. You would rarely eat alone. You would get or give alot of hugs and smiles. 5000 hugs and kisses. You would have amazing birthday parties every year. 5000 gifts. Real friends would encourage you and support you in your artistic and/or business endeavors. You’d be richer. You would be very busy keeping up with all the things that friends do for each other. Some of them may fall short of being “good friends” and you will have to forgive them. Perhaps even let them go. There will be lots of challenges and commitments but that’s less time to wallow in self-pity. And less time for self-pity is more time for growth.

  A long time ago we were reminded that the term ‘friend’ has become too casually used (perhaps not least by Facebook). When Talk Show host, Michael Parkinson, made some comment to his guest Mohammed Ali, in which Parkinson seemed to assume he was a ‘friend’ of The Greatest, Ali rebuffed him by saying he only had maybe 2 or 3 Friends. All others were ‘Acquaintances’. That was in the early ’70s. It really shook Parkinson, but the point was well made and a reminder that a true Friend is a friend in need – he/she is then truly a ‘Friend’ indeed. To be a ‘Friend’ implies some sort of real two-way equal commitment. I don’t think anyone can have more than a handful of such friends – and do justice to that friendship.
  But … ‘friend’ is such a nice word, that maybe it is not a bad thing to use it more freely now. It gives a warm feeling if nothing else. So, maybe the time has come in this 21st century digital internet age, to relax the strict definition of Mohammed Ali. He spoke in an age before the internet and even the PC. Perhaps we now need to qualify our ‘special friends’ in some way – such as ‘Real’ or ‘True’ Friends – and enjoy our less intense but virtual friends as well!

    Yes. “Virtual Friends” sounds like the new term. Could 2 people develop a two-way commitment online. Helping each other, spreading the word about each other, linking to each other, supporting each others art or business? Perhaps this may be the new virtual friend definition. Don’t be afraid to receive. It’s SUPPOSE to come back to you. Being willing and able to receive has to be a good thing, otherwise you wont be able to get those “blessings that come” from you having given to others down through the years. My friend drove me to an event. I wanted to give her gas money plus a bonus to show my appreciation, because it was pretty far. She didn’t take the money. She almost had a nervous breakdown when I tried to leave it in the car and she finally yelled franticly saying, “NO! If you pay me I will lose my blessing!!” I did not know how to respond to that, but I know that she had gotten extremely worked up about it. So I kept the money. You see, she thinks, she gets a blessing if she GIVES to me but that she LOSES the blessing if I give to HER . Sounds like faulty logic. You see, if you give, you are suppose to get it back. It’s just a law. If you have enough resources or money or contacts or talent to share with the world you should give it to the world. I think this works in business as well. Think about your favorite companies. They “gave” us a product or service that we just didn’t have or in a unique way we didn’t have.

Open your arms and receive your blessing when it comes. It’s suppose to come back to you.

SO LET IT COME BACK TO YOU AND RECEIVE IT.

      I believe that Socrates related to Ion that there are original ideas; these would be the magnetic stones that inspire throughout history. The stone picks up an iron ring and that is another creative idea based on the first. Then that iron ring picks up another iron ring and this is inspiration created by the first ring which received it from the stone. And so on and so forth. We are all inspired by our predecesors in some way.

  Your friend’s take on this is odd, as if there’s a formula and god won’t bless you if you step outside the formula. As long as she did the act with the right motives, I can’t see her point. She’s now put you in a difficult position because it you ever need another favor, you might be hesitant to ask. So, while she was being generous in a sense, she may have been selfish in another sense — unintended of course.

  Thank you for writing this. I am one of those people that have the hardest time in accepting but I see your point. I totally think that your logic is correct. I think alot of us are raised by parents that tell us it’s okay to give, but not polite to take. Anyway, I think it’s polite to take if both parties are sincere and I truly need the help or whatever.     But isn’t it all that much sweeter when you don’t “expect” it and it just flows to you. I think when we deny the possibility to give back to us we are denying them the same satisfaction that we receive when we give. I think we were all “taught” to be uncomfortable in receiving – but sometimes that is the biggest gift we can give someone, the act of receiving their gift.

Many marketing experts say that the worst thing you can do is not place your product in a niche. The idea is that , focus and specifics make for a better and narrow marketing plan. You see, people can size you up and know right away if they like you or your product. I get it. Music for example, is tough to pitch to a radio station unless there is a clear genre that the listeners are used to hearing. A sound that they know. The sound is already pre-determined by a few major record labels and everyone and anyone in that genre has to sound a little like the previous artists. I love gospel. I love dance. I love jazz. I love rock. I love the blues, pop, electronic, soul, love songs, and R&B. Even a good rap song!! As long as it is a good song that moves me. For me variety is the spice of life.

  No matter if you have preferences, you always want to listen to the less preferred genres at times. Even when I’m happy, I listen to sad songs sometimes, just to adore the beauty of their melodies!

  I simply love music in any shape or form. Finding a station eclectic enough to play good music is very difficult. we are lucky in Canada to have CBC2 and CKUA, they take chances and do not stick to the mainstream.

  Variety is the spice of life, but most people don’t like their self or their art put into categories of any kind, but for the purpose of marketing it is the only way. People who are going to be potential customers like seeing your designs laid out and structured. I think I’ve always done this, on and off the net, for the past 40 years. I also think it comes naturally after a while of doing it:-) Thanks for your post Angela!
