Hair, a lesson on patience.

So when you have half-kinky hair you just can’t ignore it.  You have to make a decision. Do I want to keep the kinky hair, or do I want to burn it bone straight, do I want to treat it chemically so that its easy to manage. If you make the decision to keep it, you’ve chosen to do the difficult thing. Now you have to be patient because it takes for ever to wash it, condition it and get the tangles out. This could take hours, if your hair is long. The tangles are treacherous. Once you get the tangles out, it will curl up beautifully especially if you put some gel or other product on it. The downside is once it dries, the gel hardens and binds the curls together. Sort of like glue. So it looks good  and curly but it’s a mess deep down. So it’s a never ending process because now you have to wash it again. If you are really impatient, you can just cut it off or pick it out to wear a true Afro. The easiest thing to do is to just cut it off.  Or you try the short cut: just pick it all out, wildly and quickly. This will probably save you years of your life over time, but you end up pulling tons of your hair out and you see tons of your hair in the comb. If your plan was to grow your hair, you’ll end up feeling upset and frustrated. So you see, the short cut sucks. Wildy and quickly just doesn’t give you the results you really want. So  you have to make a commitment to maintaining the hair, no matter how long it takes to wash, condition it and pick it out.

I can see why men have so much success in business. They have so much more time on their hands. No beauty  salon trips, no hours of washing, conditioning, and combing hair. Over time this saves them a lot of time. And a lot of money. No pressure  to wear high heels or do their nails or shave their legs or buy hundreds of dollars worth of beauty products.

So here is my lesson.

You have to make a decision to do the difficult thing.

Then make a commitment and declare to yourself that you will do it, wholeheartedly. I mean, really commit to it.

Then you have to be discipline, and follow the routine necessary. Be specific and discipline yourself to following the steps. Have a plan and follow it.

Then you have to have patience, because taking a short cut, will not give you the results you want.
